When I was a much younger Christian, one of my friends asked me if I had heard
Bob Bennett. When I told him I hadn't, he pulled out a record album (yes, vinyl) and put it on his turn table. I've been listening to him ever since. The album my friend played for me that day was "Matters of the Heart" which ended up becoming the CCM Magazine "Album of the Year."
I now own a copy of every song Bob has recorded as well as a few he didn't record (please don't tell anyone about those). He immediately became one of my favorite song writers and singers and has remained so all these years (almost thirty now). He holds a special place in my heart and on my iPod.
Because of all that, it was a thrill for me to be able to invite Bob to our church for a special concert on August 8, 2009. From the first time I spoke with him on the phone, to picking him up at the airport, to shooting the breeze with him on our back patio, he proved to be a sweetheart of a guy on top of everything else. Needless to say, the concert was superb. To top it all off, the next day, he ministered at our worship service. It was a beautiful ending to a fabulous weekend.
If you've never heard him, take the next opportunity to do so. He's a special guy with special talent in the service of the Lord. Thanks Bob. We'll be out as soon as we can for those dollar tacos!
